Savoring Downtime
Slowing down forces us to enjoy life and not work so much, I tell myself after being on the road for the last 5 weeks. My body and creative mind need time to rest, grow stronger and gain perspective.
The first snow of the year fell in Minneapolis yesterday, a perfect Lake Wobegon moment and reminder to enjoy the simpler things in life before the Holiday bustle. We indulged in apple pie, laughed during a live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, featuring the St. Olaf Choir and the St. Olaf Orchestra, a talented Minnesota blend for a perfect Saturday evening! Here are a few of my favorite images from a “day off.”
Krista proudly toured me around Saint Olaf, located in Northfield, Minnesota during the first snow of the year (been told this snow lingers until April..gulp).
Garrison Keillor taps his inner creativity, eyes closed, during his live radio show at front a captive audience, blending with humor, song, and humanity. I shot this image seated in the crowd with my Nikon 70-200… trying not to distrurb. I choose to to leave in the exit sign, and liked the ON AIR text… adding important context to the photo. Turn 180 and here’s the primary light source:
In cheesy romantic-RJ style, I proposed in front of the Saint Olaf chapel, something that never gets old. Photo credit goes to a Roger “Second Shooter” Olsen, who photographed our actual engagement last May.
He reminds, if I am not careful, one day he could be my first shooter!
