Cathleen & Graham {Larchmont Yacht Club Wedding}
On the bow of the garbage boat, anchored off of Tahiti Beach near Tilloo Cut on the southern end of Elbow Cay in the Bahamas, he grabbed a bottle of cheap champagne. It was sunset. The intention was to pop the question days ago, if it weren’t for boat mechanical issues. Yet she still said, “Yes!” and he got it all on video as a surprise.
How did she know he was the one? Her dog’s bad breath + Graham’s bad breath = no bother.
Graham learned to sail at Larchmont Yacht Club (LYC) and Cathleen wanted to get married at there since she was a little girl. The social highlight of her summer? Larchmont Race Week with a dance in the pandemonium… one of the reasons they chose to wed at LYC.
Cathleen’s favorite part of the wedding day?
“How natural it felt… the whole day,” she said. “Watching my grandmother toss flower petals down the aisle, I didn’t know that I’ve ever been able to make someone that happy before and it really just felt amazing.”
She’ll never forget, “Watching Graham trying to get all of the bugs out of my dress and claiming that it wasn’t their fault – the thing was made of ‘mosquito netting.’”
Iconic bridal party portrait inspired by Technicolor film and suaveness:
Graham’s favorite part of the wedding day?
“Sitting in the chair at the front of the church, listening to Father Les, holding Cath’s hand and realizing we were starting a relationship that was going to last.”
When Graham turns 80, he’ll never forget his groomsmen were pounding Pedialite before the ceremony. He wasn’t particularly impressed with their recovery skills.
Cathleen & Graham’s wedding marked my second time photographing at the Larchmont Yacht Club in Larchmont, NY. Rolling past the gates, I was reminded of the manicured grounds, nautical themed environs, and friendly, helpful staff, especially by coordinator John Wall. Highlights from this wedding including a sunset boat-ride in Long Island Sound, metaphorical toasts by the best man using aeronautical and nautical references. Graham kicked off the wedding day boating back from Indian Harbor Yacht Club from the rehearsal dinner the night before.
Shortly before the First Look, Cathleen took a few quite moments in yoga mediation. Together, they are experts at slowing down, enjoying moments, and sharing the finer things in life. It’s easy to be around their family and friends, too, especially when the cigars get lit.
And for extra credit, my friend, Giovanni Savino brought along his 6×9 Busch camera, and did a medium-format happy dance:
and the resulting images shot on 100ASA black and white film. Timeless!!!
Cathleen & Graham, it was an honor! Thank you for having me as part of your wedding day and trusting my instincts doing a First Look at Larchmont, posing up an editorial bridal party image, and jumping on the life jacket box! I hope you enjoy your honeymoon in Italy, many pasta comas, and wish you many more boating adventures in your future! Don’t ever loose that playful, lightheaded spirit you both share… even in stormy seas ahead!
