Hannah & Chris {Wilmington, DE}
Chris and Hannah made it obvious how much they adore their family and friends at this destination wedding in Wilmington, Delaware. Their tender, shared admiration and sweetness are apparent, and I must say, inspiring. I noticed this first during their New York engagement session at West Point. But to see it come to full fruition on the wedding day was amazing! And they know how to turn a reception into a party. I’ll never forget watching bottles of Dom passed around on the dance floor which kept things moving at Hotel Dupont past midnight, with tunes amped up by Nate Cheyney at White Label DJs.
Hannah and Chris are special people to me, both serious & super sharp, they still can pull off a surprise “Hadouken,” Ryu’s special attach in the Street Fighter video game series. The above image says it all. I still grin when I glance at the photo (BTW the fireball is in the correct location, according to Chris who says Hannah’s fireball packs a punch).
Before we dive into the photos, first a few words about how I met Hannah and Chris. My brother went to med school with Chris’ brother, Brian. More importantly, I wouldn’t be writing this blog post today without the efforts of Brian and Sunny, as they were among the first light-painting clients. I thank them for their patience as I practiced my craft, “just one more time for good luck,” I say over and over 4 years ago.
After the First Look, we headed to drove to Longwood Gardens to explore before the wedding ceremony at Hanover Church. Officiant Jim Hughes married Hannah’s parents decades ago which added an extra special nostalgic element. All in all, this wedding served up perfect kinetic elements I love to shoot: dynamic emotions, gorgeous color, a patient and fun-loving bridal party (who never complain!), and an infinite array of scenarios. Thanks to my friend Gino Siller who helped document their day as a second shooter who he doesn’t complain hoisting the 69” Elinchrom Rotalux on a dime. And I can’t wait to see the final cut by videographer Brian Chu from The Werehaus. Brian and Austin, I look forward to future collaborations!
I’ll enjoy going back to these photos again and again. Especially when I hear “Hadouken.”
