Postcard from County Kerry {Ireland}

Wet boots, haphazard u-turns, grazing animals, and inspiring light helped make this series of landscape images driving around the County of Kerry in Ireland over the past two days. I’m blown away by what I’ve been able to see of this island in my little rental car, staying focused in the three little peninsulas in the southwest: Dingle, Iveragh, and Beara. Driving over mountain passes in roads smaller than a single lane has been a bit tedious being mindful of traffic flow, but well worth the adventure. While I admit to getting lost a few times, the Irish jump right it and show me the way, as well as share a few travel tips. The grey beards in the pubs are phenomenal conversationists at 1am with empty pint glasses all around. All images created with the PhaseOne IQ back and the 55mm f/2.8 LS. This combo has really helped me create the types of image I’ve had in my head for so many years. Haven’t showered in the last few days, nor slept in a normal bed (car camping)… loving it all the way.

I enjoyed meeting Irish landscape photographer Eoghan Kavanagh in his gallery in Kenmare. He was very helpful sharing stellar shooting locations. I ordered one of his prints which I’m excited to hang in my office. I really enjoyed how he decorated his gallery, including birch wood decor for a hand-made display rack. Here we are!
