Kate and Mark {Minneapolis Wedding Photographer}
So much of photography is about being at the right place at the right time, one of the reasons I loved photographing Kate and Mark’s wedding at the Mill City Museum, a unique wedding venue in Minneapolis, MN. Almost everywhere I turned there were grins from ear to ear. It all started with their First Look at the Nicolette Island Inn, a golden opportunity to set a stage for such an important memory: when a groom sees his bride for the first time.
I photographed this first wedding in Minnesota solo, which meant a bit of extra pressure to makes creative diamonds. I couldn’t have picked better clients to work with, as they gave me ample creative time to play with shadows, reflections, and light… inspired by their icy engagement session last February! Thank you Kate and Mark for trusting in me to do my best and treating me like a guest. Willy wanted me to especially thank you, Kate, for being such a wonderful dog sitter!
My PhaseOne 645 medium format camera compliments the wedding photography genre perfectly! So many woman have grown used to see images shot in fashion and beauty magazines shot with medium format cameras, we have grown accustomed to ‘the look,’ the dynamic range, and the image quality. I especially like how it handles skin tones in difficult light.
Subtle details like the sharpness of Kate and Mark’s earrings shine perfectly in this special moment just before the ceremony.
This image reminds me of 1920s Paris.
There’s nothing like the look of shooting medium format with a off-camera octabank for family formals, especially since I know families love to print these large.
I savor the chance to shoot personal work on the wedding day. Here, I share the first in a series of long-exposure images with my PhaseOne, a tool which has allowed me to take my approach to painting with light to a new level which I write about in this blog post here.
