Karen & Kyle
Kyle and Karen were engaged last week after seven years of dating. Kyle is only guy I know who can charm a girl with humor in a lingerie store… which is how their story might start. Kyle’s master creativity makes anything he creates, especially with paper, turn into “cool.” He’s the only card toting “paper engineer” I know, and judging from Kyle’s portfolio, I say he ranks among the best in the world. I’ve known Kyle for over 12 years since we studied art together during a semester abroad in Wollongong, Australia.
Karen’s cooking made my nose drift straight to the stove top the moment I walked into their cute apartment in Harlem. She speaks more languages than anyone I know… I’ll round to about seven, although she’s humbled not to admit. She’s one smart cookie… more than the Thin Mints Kyle loves so much.
Together they speak each other’s love languages. I am so happy for them!
Friends & family might might wonder after seven years of dating, “I thought they were already married and had two kids and a car dealership outside Tacoma”, or “How did he trick her into marrying a starving artist?” Hereby witness ‘the art’ of how Kyle “Pop-Up King” popped the question.
The temp hovered at 5 degrees F, yet the vibrant color and a brisk walk kept us alive. I snapped a few candids as they toured me around Harlem before the “official” engagement. Nothing too serious, just fun candid moments on the go…. a metaphor for their relationship.
Happy President’s Day today, blog readers! I liked this mural in Harlem… an appropriate ode to our first black president!
