Alyssa & Scott, expecting
This is the 4th time I’ve photographed this wonderful couple… starting with their engagement session, wedding, and themed-portrait session.
Alyssa contacted me via Facebook about her desire for a maternity photo session near their new home in Greeley, Colorado. At first, I hesitated. I’ve only photographed one maternity session before. Yet, I am a photographer and love a creative challenge. Plus, this cute couple matches my ‘perfect client’ client criteria: they value high-quality photography, are open to exploring creative possibilities on location, and understand the time needed to create special images while enjoying their photography experience.
Alyssa & Scott’s chemistry together make me smile. His hard work compliments her willingness to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. Their baby boy is on his way and I look forward to meeting him and witnessing their growing family. All the very best in your new adventure!

Quite an honor to photograph another photographer’s family, but I knew I’d have to pull out the bag of tricks to create something different. Given Scott’s affinity for off-camera lighting, I created this dramatic portrait of them, using Scott as a voice-activated light stand shining the light on his beautiful bride.
On a technical note, I feel like I am moving towards creating the types of images I love using medium format digital, full of rich dynamic range and a painterly effect you’d expect by Annie Leibovitz. I used one light to create my desired “look” while keeping it simple:
