ISPWP award winners {Winter 2013}

Hundreds of the best wedding photographers from around the world submit images to the International Society for Wedding Photography (ISPWP) contest held each quarter. To have an image place is an honor. In 2009, I took 5th overall. While the competition is getting more and more challenging, this year I’m gonna go after it again.

I love shooting destination engagement sessions and was excited that Danielle & Fernando’s shoot in New York City took honors for this portrait inspired by a vintage Tiffany advertisement hanging on a bus stop in the city. The challenge in creating this portrait was waiting for a modern cab to drive by (the clients are in the background). This image placed in the “Engagement” category:

Nikon D700, 85mm at f/2 for 1/500 sec, ISO 400.

Drum roll…..

To have an image place in the top five, well, that’s a reason to do a little happy dance, call up my clients, and congratulate them! Which is just what I did moments ago!

Landing in a Top 5 Spot in the “Bridal Party” category, my bridal party portrait from Christine & Owen’s Stanley Hotel wedding in Estes Park, CO:

If you are interested in learning about the detailed process of creating the above portrait, check my step-by-step tutorial over on the ProDPI blog, Create Vanity Fair-esque Bridal Party Images.

Special thanks goes out to Fernando and Danielle and Christine & Owen (and your bridal party!) for their patience and willingness to try something creatively different. I really appreciate it!

Future Clients: If you’d love to have bragging rights for one of your photos in top awards, trust in me and we’ll go far (but there are no promises).
